Kenmare has it’s cute little town center, it’s traditional pubs and market square, but it also has it’s own castle, Dunkerron, which is listed in a lot of the regular guidebooks as only a quick mention. First of all it’s mostly a wreck, a relatively small tower that’s crumbled quite a bit away to nothing, second, its sort of on private property. Actually we’re not 100% certain if its on private property, but the drive to get there is down past a private home and set well within the confines of that home. So, to say that its difficult to find and even more difficult to get to despite being about a mile from town would be an understatement. It’s okay to say to yourself that maybe you’ll skip it if only because.
We had the good fortune of being at Dunkerron House and thus took the moment to whip out our camera and do a quick walk around the castle and post it for posterity.
